Amy’s Story
Amy Beegel was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Her mother Linda Trautmann often took her camping, fishing, hiking in the forests and rivers of Pennsylvania. Amy was inspired to go to Yellowstone by her teachers after hearing stories of their experiences working there. After graduating from high school she applied to work at Old Faithful and headed to Montana on a Greyhound Bus to begin her career in Yellowstone National Park in the summer of 1988. Upon arriving in Montana and seeing the ominous mountains and wide-open sky Amy knew she was home.
Her first few nights were spent exploring the historic little town of Livingston, MT. Then she headed to Old Faithful to begin work. Living at Old Faithful during the historic fire season of 1988, she was the only employee to lose all of her belongings after the fire burned down the small cabin she was living in that summer. It was truly an amazing piece of the Park’s history to live through.
Over the course of her first season Amy spent her time exploring and learning about Yellowstone. She spent her days off hiking the trails and fishing around in the park. After several summer and winter seasons in Yellowstone, she accepted a job working in Grand Teton National Park.. After working for both Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park concessions for several years she began working as a year round tour guide in Yellowstone National Park before starting her own tour company. In 2014, she acquired her Interpretive Guide Certification. Amy attends annual guide training classes provided by the National Park Service to keep current on resource conditions in and around Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Additionally, she keeps her First aid/CPR training current and up to date.
Among other ventures, Amy in very involved in her community and regularly plans and hosts community events, raises funds for families in need and volunteers for Special Olympics events. While attending a concert in Pittsburgh, Bonnie Raitt referred to Amy as the Jack-ess of All Trades (a female version of a Jack of All Trades.)
